The beauty of the cliche’ colours of a sunset intersect with the power of line inspires this piece.

Here I am sculpting a pine beetle killed pine tree in my yard.  I choose to do it in a totemic style as in a series of images, one on top of the other. It takes a lot of time but it’s fascinating to do.  I think the next sculpture will be a single image/form.  The weather has also dictated how much I can   accomplish. Fall and winter makes carving outside difficult.

Many of my abstractions are landscape inspired. In this piece I discuss my interest in the beauty of the complexity of experience which is close and intimate, one you might come by on a hike in the bush . Contrast such an experience with a majestic mountain landscape.  What can you get out of either one.

This a large canvas in acrylic which I did while working as artist in residence at the Two Rivers public Art Gallery in Prince. George, BC (February 2011).  It was created in the gallery, in response to a symphony created for this event and played by the PG Symphony Orchestra (PGSO). Due to its intent, I call the piece “Symphony.” On the other hand the piece runs in tandem with my interest in exploring visual expression with a line and colour emphasis.

A different sort of action painting. If you see it take some time (as I want you to do in all my work of course), and consider the horizons. First complete one then you are forced to the next and the next, then back to a previous one.

Here are some pictures from Studio Fair held at the Prince George Civic Center on the weekend of Nov. 5, 6 and 7. To all who came out, a big thank you. Studio Fair is a juried event and is one of the oldest and largest artisan fairs of its kind in British Columbia.

As you can see, I included a archival print section of water colour paintings I did in France while living there with my family. These proved to be my best seller as the seemed to be appealing and more easily affordable than committing to buying a painting which is obviously a larger investment. I also appreciated the interest in my work and the observations and comments people made. Archival prints are made with acid free inks and paper and will not yellow for up to 100 years and more. Prints, I am finding, are a great way to make original artwork accessible to the public. They are still personal and provide an alternative to commercial prints more commonly found in print shops, fast food restaurants etc.

In the left and right hand pictures below you see the display of  prints from my original watercolor paintings.  The center picture shows an interested observer during a slower time of day when I had a chance to snap a picture.

My interest in action continues in this piece. Inspired by a relationship with nature and the rhythms of existence as well as the elements by which visual artists express ourselves and our ideas. 5ft x 2.5ft
